Marissa Johnson: Video Advert

In this lesson we were put into groups were that are going to be making an ad for the next three weeks. So after we got together in a triangle we all asked each other what skills we have and what objects we could bring in. Then we all look at some 30 seconds advert. The first one we watched was the old spice advert, in this advert the actor which is promoting the product is Terry Crews  - www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaOz_pFnX38.

In our Group we decided to look at the well known adverts then we each add in our own adverts we personally liked, for me it was 1st advert i have evidence i had to choose between this one or the original one. after this i choose one and we moved to the next person in our group who wanted to have an ad made by David Lynch so we looked through his collection of adverts and discussed the advert about the effects etc. After this the last person didn't have any weird looking adverts so we talked about what type of product that should have some weird adverts and then it clicked. looked at different adverts in japan, this is because of the cultural difference because in the west we are pretty serious about things while in japan they are the exact opposite because they are up for a happy and weird feeling.

The second advert we look at was directed by David Lynch, David has mainly been know for his work for the play station 2 the 'third place' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4tOvkvCvwQ. The advert is weird because of the finally part of the advert were the fawn runs in front of the car then it seems he used some ideas from the Matrix movie because as soon as the car hits the fawn it crashes and the crumple zone of the car gets compressed.

The third advert was from abroad since we were suck for ideas for ads in the UK  we chose to look at some Japanese advert - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfzNEmqeIWo. This advert was weird because of the gaint dog that helps out kids with snacks.

Mark Epton - screen less images

In the beginning of the first we were shown how to set up a basic studio for photographers by using a high voltage light referred by the professional photographer as the red head. this is because of the continuous light that comes out of it. there are disadvantages to this light such as it would become extremely hot after only 10 mins. The next piece of equipment would be a Lumia camera. we used this to take the picture of the objects and to make sure the image is steady we used a tripod. and for the background we used a white back ground by using a piece of paper. Then we were told to take some pictures of some objects with this set up

this is the first of the images we've taken it just a simple Kit Kat bar (Top).then we went into Photoshop and used the 'levels' tool to and a few things to the image so that the background turns pink (bottom).

These head phones were a tricky because of the image since there is a big shadow behind the headphones so I use a mixture of 'Curves' and 'Levels' to have the sliver background.

Hard drive was easy to change since i have already had practiced with the 'curve' tool thanks to the other images.

Owain Davies: Banners

In this lesson we learnt how to make banners with photo shop by using different shapes such as a rectangle and some triangles. this is possible by using different layers. For example for the image above I used the rectangle and triangle then I used a gradient overlay to get the effect that is on the banner. I also used this technique for the background. then for the image to the right I deiced to play around and made another banner with one of the images I made earlier on in the year.I did run into some problems like the triangles don't match up properly so I just changed the size of the banner to fix it.

Owain Davies: Ghostly Images

the influence behind this image was the video game called 'mirrors edge' especially with the theme of a 'big brother' state. This basically means that there are thousand of cameras around a city recording what every does at all times and there is no concept of privacy.

In this session we learnt on how to make a few pictures with ghosts on it. We did this by choosing two different images. the first image was used for the background so for these we only increase the size of the original image. Then for the second image did a little more. To start we had to edit out the subject out of the image so we used the pen tool so it can be as accurate as it can be. After this we desaturated the image to make it grey after it we put quite a bit of blur on the 'ghost' then we just decrease the opacity

this concept is due to my time playing a board game and this one was an actual model of the game. since i really enjoyed the game i deiced to use it as the ghost and i just matched the background to the subject.

Marissa Johnson:Wasp's Camera Shots/ Storyboard

In this lesson I was told watch a short film by Andrea Arnold called 'Wasp' this film depicted the real life struggles of a single mother. the entire movie was 24 minutes and 14 seconds long after watching the entire movie we were told to search through the entire movie and find ten camera shots that Andrea used though out the movie and from the looks of it he favors close up the most because it allow the audience to see the emotions of the actors and would start to grow a sort of an attachment to the characters. then we combed through the film again to 3 dietetic sounds and 3 non dietetic sounds.
this is the list of of the the camera shots that Andrea used as well as the time stamp were it was used.

after doing the main task we moved onto sketching out a story board with what type of camera angle that should be used in what scene and to help us out our tutor told us to think of an over arcing story. This allowed me to picture it at a cinema and this lead me to what type of camera angle to use.

Mark Epton: camera detail

In this lesson i have learnt the different features of the cameras by sketching them out and labeling where the features are located such as a function called 'aperture' this is were the camera lens shrinks to let less light into lens so the background don't become blurred.

Owain Davies: Photoshop Clone Tool

Photoshop

In this lesson i was introduce to Photoshop by using the clone tool as well as the transform tool. the transform tool is where i can increase as well as decrease the size of a image. The next tool we used was the clone tool this is where we select a part of the picture the clone it onto another picture. Then we were told to use all the tools we were taught so we could make a mashup picture of different images to do this we were introduce the pen tool to make more accurate cuts.

Marissa Johnson: Brain Storm

In this lesson i learned that there are less female directors than males. the percentage is 6% for females and 94% for males then we were told to find 3 female directors and their films and 3 male directors and their names and also do research on what films they directed.

Then we got our hands on some video cameras and did different types of shots such as 'extreme wide shots' and a 'close up' shots etc. we did this three times a piece so each of person in my group could get a feel for the camera. I also learnt about a director called Simon Ellis who did a short film were it was used in a anti bullying campaign.

Faye Jackson: Freaky images

Freak or Unique Images

Picture 1:http://cdn.inspirationhut.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Weisss-secret-slash-THREE-550x806.jpg

Artists: Anton Semenov

Inspired by:the film Pans Labyrinth

Influencing my work: the use of the clown face would help influence my work by having a different clown which would hopefully be Photoshop to a degree that it would be of the same standard as the photo provided.

Picture 2http://dizainabrivzona.lv/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/m29.jpg

Artist:Alexander Fedosov
Inspired by: even though i couldn't find on any sites of what his inspiration was i can make a very good educated guess that it was to do with how good of a picture he could take and then edit with only two different colors.
influencing my work: through this unique image i will try and see how effective just two different type of colors with the adjustment to the contrast as well as the exposure do against any other pictures i take and then use the final one for my end work

Picture 3: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/f6/75/6c/f6756c3b330ec46a08b8e915c440df64.jpg

Artist: tieumagame (Deviant Art)
Inspired by: As his words simply say 'Its simply a grey eye'
influencing my work: with this i could use this type of photo by combining it with with the other photos by having it ether having it as a background for the symbolism for a 'Big Brother' state or have something in the glint of the eye so it would be like there is something in front that the picture the eye such as a person to add a surreal element to the picture or something else.

Faye Jackson: Advertising Theory

Advertising Theory

Today I have learned that there is a lot more to advertising than meets the eye. I learned about it by doing a task that allows us to make an original advert for a make believe product. through this we learnt the difficulties of choice when you need to decide on what colour to use as well as how we are going to present it. such as if it needs to be presented to toddlers the advert needs to be colourful but then you would need to think of the secondary audience group that could be linked to the original target group. this secondary one would be the parents of the toddlers so we would need to make the produce healthy or at least appear healthy.

We made a healthy snack bar using SpongeBob Square Pants as the mascot. Then for the slogan we chose 'Play it and Eat' the 'play' part is for the free toy inside every pack.

The image to the right is the actual bar itself and the packaging for the bar. As said in the previous paragraph we had SpongeBob in the centre of the package with the circle to try and recreate the end part of the intro song for SpongeBob Square Pants were he appears and plays the flute with his noise.

Then we decided to have 6 free toys where you can get one of them after buying one of the packs of four. there are two reasons behind this the first one is for the toddlers having extra incentive to pester there parent to buy it. The second one reason would be the people with ether a minor or a major case of OCD because with this can of personality they would have an urge to collect them all also notice on the picture that we didn't add any type of design for the toy. This is because it would have an element of randomness as well as the consumer having no idea on what they look like and so they can't spend their money on a site like eBay just to finish off there collection.
